The Water Wheel Guest Cabin of Story Wyoming was originally the real estate office of Marshall Wolfe who was offering lots to people from Missouri. The cabin is over 100 years old with hand–hewn beams, logs and dovetailed corners on the outside. At one time it was an independent structure near the Eychaner home but was later incorporated into their home by a ‘miserably cold’ hallway and was called the back bedroom where the children slept.
During the renovation of the Eychaner home in the 1950’s the structure was moved to the back of the lot where it now stands. It was then used for extra company and guest.
The ‘extra’ company also had the company of squirrels in the ceiling. They could be heard running about. In the summer of 2002 Jim Eychaner and Dollie Eychaner Reno began the labor instensive job of tearing out the ceiling and divesting the cabin of all debris hauled in by the squirrels for the past 100 years. No treasures were found but lots and lots of pine cones, corn cobs, bones (ham type) and much filling from various fabric stuffed items were hauled away in two trailers. Jim framed the in the bathroom and put up the paneling. During the winter months the Ash Construction Co. completed the work on the cabin.
The floor is the original fir floor and was refinished by Dave Williams of Sheridan.
We offer this unique cabin to our guests as a refuge from the stress of the ‘real world’ hoping you enjoy the sound of the pine trees and water and will not miss the phone or TV!
